No more AIM
Posted Sept. 10, 2009 by Gabriel Hurley
I meant to write this article about a month ago, but I've been too swamped to get it out.
Long story short: I'm done with AIM.
A part of me is amazed that the protocol has stuck around as long as it has, and another part is surprised I've stuck with it.
In truth, I hardly know ...
I need a hand, send me your pictures!
Posted Aug. 24, 2009 by Gabriel Hurley
Hi folks!
I'm wrapping up my personal portfolio website, and have one piece that I really want to create, but need some awesome photos for. I'd love it if they came from my friends and family rather than stock photo sites!
Criteria:
- High-res (bonus points if you have a copy in RAW format)
- Color (no b&w)
- Landscape ...

The title of the post has a double meaning.
First off, I wanted to share the funniest error message I've ever gotten (from years ago). Its redundancy made me laugh so hard I actually to a screenshot of it. Click the image to see the full-size version of it.
I hope you found that as funny ...

On Holiday
Posted Jan. 3, 2009 by Gabriel Hurley
In case it wasn't otherwise obvious, I'm taking this week (mostly) off from work.
Happy holidays and happy new year!
p.s. - for those of us with lots of websites we're responsible for, this is a nifty little tool to avoid problems: Are My Sites Up? Totally free and easy to use. Gives a quick visual check ...
Merry Post-Christmas
Posted Dec. 26, 2008 by Gabriel Hurley
Get it... "post"-Christmas...
Anyhow, only minor updates to the online realm today. Between family and another upcoming project I could only do so much.
However, I did do a couple things:
- Planned out some content strategy* for the website. (*If you're wondering what that is, see: Content-tious Strategy on A List Apart)
- Added a nice hCard header to ...

The new job hunting?
Posted Dec. 24, 2008 by Gabriel Hurley
In the next 31 days, I'm going to find a job by telling a story. The story I'm going to tell is about me finding a job by creating a website about me finding a job and leveraging the power of social networks and communication. And I'm going to do all that in a time when the economy is collapsing and most people would be thankful just to be employed at all.
Has greed become the sign of our times?

Last week my work raffled off a big screen HDTV in the process of closing up shop for, in some ways, the very last time. I was in charge of that raffle.
Despite the sadness that people felt; despite the importance of the closing; despite the inordinate amount of work that had to be done, over and over I heard ...
Thanksgiving Cranberry Margarita
Posted Nov. 29, 2008 by Gabriel Hurley
Here's a nice little recipe I came up with after hunting through my kitchen to see what leftover fruit I had:
In a blender, combine
- 1 cup fresh or frozen whole cranberries
- 3 oz Tequila
- 2 oz Grenadine
- 1/2 cup Sweet and Sour mix
- Fill with ice
Blend the whole thing on a low setting until the ice ...
Tourettes Without Regrets Video Clips
Posted Oct. 9, 2008 by Gabriel Hurley
Paul and I went out and filmed Tourettes Without Regrets last week. For those of you who don't know, Tourettes Without Regrets is a twisted vaudeville cabaret of performances that range from spoken word to freestyle rap battle to dirty haiku competition to comedy, acrobatics, music and burlesque. It takes place on the first Thursday of every month.
We ...
Talking about change and decisions
Posted Aug. 29, 2008 by Gabriel Hurley
This is a call for opinions and knowledge.
I had a conversation with a friend last night who came to a sudden state of uncertainty and fear about the need to make changes in their life--a life which is overall pretty good, but which isn't necessarily fulfilling all their needs anymore. And what became clear as the conversation went ...
