Exceeding your limitations and why am I up so late?

Point number one:
strongly believe in the theory that you should push yourself until you reach the technical limitations imposed by the gear you own. If you haven't mastered your mic placement you shouldn't be buying better mics. If you haven't mastered your apertures and f-stops you shoudn't be buying better cameras. And if you can't parallel park a station wagon, don't buy a luxury sedan.
Anyhow, I've follow this addage in my equipment purchases for a few years now. Most of it I feel has been greatly to my benefit. And what's left has highlighted what I need to learn.
But as I drove home from dropping Paul off tonight, I was thinking about my car. And the base of it all is that I still don't feel that I drive 100% as well as the car is capable of. I started off at maybe 60-70%. Now I'm maybe up to 85%. But I'm still not capableof driving my car as well as it is capable of being driven. It gives me room to grow and learn and do better.
That's essential to learning and becoming a better person.
That's about all I really have to say.
As an unrelated train of thought, it bothers me that I'm up until almost 6 AM. Granted, the time changed so it's sort of only 5 AM, but even still, I don't like it. Despite sleep aids, 5-HTP, warm milk, sex, snuggly girls, and any number of other remedies, I am unable to fall asleep at a normal hour and feel rested when I wake up.
No good at all. :-(
Bedtime.
